Better screen is back

The Galaxy A33 is a big improvement over the A32 5G from a year ago. Compared to the A32 4G, that one already got a significantly smaller screen to reduce the extra cost of 5G. Apparently, 5G has become cheap enough because the high-resolution screen is back. It is a tad smaller, though, with 6.4 inches, you still have plenty of room for videos, photos, and web pages. It is a Super AMOLED panel that is praised for its vivid colours and high contrast. Images are refreshed 90 times per second which ensures smooth transitions. Scrolling thru a list, therefore, looks fast and smooth.

OIS for sharper pictures

On the back, we see a new design, especially the camera module. This in itself has been dramatically improved because of OIS. This technique ensures much sharper pictures by filtering out unintentional movements or shocks. This also provides sharper images in the dark or at nite. The primary camera has 48 megapixels and features a bright f/1.8 lens with nite mode. There is also an 8MP ultra-wide-angle for landscape photos, a 2MP depth camera that allows for portrait mode, and a 5MP macro camera for extra close-up shots. The selfie camera at the front is 13MP in size, making it sharp enough for extended selfies.

Waterproof comes at a price

For the first time, Samsung provides the Galaxy A3 series with a waterproof casing. A reassuring thought because with it, it is guaranteed to be water-resistant to 1 metre for 30 minutes. And thanks to Gorilla Glass 5, the Galaxy A33 5G is resistant to scratches and light fall damage. Inside, Samsung applies a large 5000 mAh battery, enough for two days of use. Fast charging can be done with up to 25W, which is almost a doubling compared to last year. The only pity is that the headphone port has disappeared. You will have to listen to music wirelessly from now on; otherwise, you will have to buy a USB dongle. This also applies to a charger because it is no longer included in the box.
