This POCO M4 Pro 5G is one of the most affordable 5G phones. But POCO hasn't cut back on other things because the M4 Pro 5G comes with a 90Hz screen and a lightning-fast charging battery. So it's up to us to find the catch because some corners must have been cut somewhere.
There are two versions of this POCO M4 Pro; one with and one without 5G. But that's not the only difference. The 4G version is smaller, has one more camera and with more megapixels. Oh well, it's also slightly more affordable. On the other hand, this M4 Pro 5G does have a memory card slot and, of course, 5G support. The latter makes it a little more future-proof for when 5G is available everywhere. Should you go for the M4 Pro 5G, you'll get a 90Hz screen of 6.6 inches in size with it. And on it, a sharp FHD+ image is displayed. There is also a sunlight mode for outdoor use but unfortunately we find the brightness a bit disappointing. However, given the asking price, we can live with that.
The 5G support is made possible by a MediaTek Dimensity 810 processor. A neat processor that performs well. You can choose how much memory it has at its disposal. The model with 64GB storage comes with 4GB of RAM and the 128GB model with 6GB. If, despite this, you are still short of storage space then you can add a memory card up to 1TB. The battery is 5000mAh in size, which is more than enough for a full day of intensive use. Special in this category is the 33W fast charging. That's even higher than some high-end phones offer. Briefly refuelling is often enough for many hours of use again.
On the back of the M4 Pro 5G we find a multitude of cameras. At least, so it seems. In reality, there are only two: a 50MP main camera and an 8MP ultra-wide-angle with 119° lens. The remaining cut-outs are for the flash and marketing purposes. So don't let it throw you off. The camera performs quite well and we can appreciate that POCO leaves out the usual unnecessary macro and depth camera. You will also find double speakers, a headphone port and fingerprint scanner on the side. And all that is in a quirky housing with large POCO logo. Too bad it is not waterproof. So is this the perfect 5G phone for little? It is if you can live with the MIUI software. This contains, in addition to some quirks, especially a lot of bloatware.
