Oppo A16s product description

The Oppo A16s is an affordable smartphone but one with a triple camera system on the back. Add to that a large HD+ screen and a 5000 mAh large battery and you have a winning formula. At least, so it seems. But whether it really is, we're going to find out here.

Good but not cheap

If you stop for a minute and think about it, it is incredible how far we have come. A beautifully designed phone, of which the edges are neatly rounded and with a matte finish so that fingerprints do not get a grip. And all that for this amount of money. Of course we are talking about an entry level phone and everything that comes with it. But the era where cheap phones looked really cheap is behind us. At the front, we find a 6.52 inch screen. The resolution is HD+, which is a step below FHD+. Photos are nevertheless sharp, altho text can sometimes appear somewhat jagged. At the top of the screen, we find a V-shaped indentation for the selfie camera. This has an 8MP resolution and is therefore perfectly suitable for selfies and video calls.

Camera does its best

You can take photos with the triple camera on the back. Altho you will mainly use the 13MP main camera with f/2.2 lens. That has the highest resolution of the trio and has the most functions. Think of AI beautification and features where you can make colours pop out. Combined with the depth of field camera, the A16s has a portrait mode where you can blur the background. The third and final camera is a macro camera for extreme close-ups. Thanks to the 2MP sensor, these will never be really sharp, so don't expect miracles. Still, Oppo has tried to make quite a bit out of the camera with the presence of a total of 22 different filters.

Little fuss

The A16s houses another strong feature; its 5000 mAh large battery. Enough for over a day of use and with a power saving mode to get the most out of it. Unfortunately fast charging is not an option, but charging is possible via the handy universal USB Type-C. This symmetrical cable has no top and bottom so you always insert it correctly in 1 time. Under the hood, this entry-level Oppo uses an entry-level processor: the MediaTek Helio G35. The storage memory is a modest 64GB but is expandable with a memory card. Finally, the presence of a fingerprint scanner is neat. You will find it on the side.
