Vodafone is going to lower the speed of mobile internet (update)
Vodafone is getting in the news because of the decrese of the down- and upload speeds of mobile internet. The decrease is mainly important for new customers and extensions, current customers keep their speeds.
The download speed is decreasing from 3.600 kbit/s to 'only' 256 kbit/s. According to Vodafone mobile internet is mainly being used for looking at simple internet pages and email messages and 356 kbit/s should be sufficient. Nevertheless, the upload speed is decreasing from 385 kbit/s to 64 kbit/s.
Remarkable
The decrease is quite remarkable, because Vodafone was actually fighting with other large providers to have the quickest data network. The reason for the decrease is still unclear. Vodafone said that the new speeds are more marktconform. The decrease is only noticeable for new customers and for extensions of subscriptions. Who had a subscription of before November 17th is still keeping the old speeds.
Update: On Thursday November the 20th Vodafone announced that it is going to stop with the plans to decrease the speeds. It got a lot of reactions to the new and the therefore the current speeds for mobile internet will be remained.
