Apple App Store reaches milestone of 1 milliard downloads
Apples iPhone App Store had to cope with up to 1 milliard downloads since the opening 9 months ago. A great achievement!
People predicted that Apple would get this amount of downloads and they did. The succes can partially be ascribed to the iPhone; Apple sold up to 3,7 million worldwide in the first quarter of 2009. That is an increase of 123% in comparison to the same period last year.
The idea of an App Store has been widely adopted by multiple producers. Among others Microsoft, the biggest rival of Apple. Their store is named Marketplace and is integrated in Windows Mobile 6.5.
