The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip4 is Samsung's fourth-generation foldable phone. It is also Samsung's most affordable 'Foldable', with a vertical folding screen of no less than 6.7 inches in size. However, once folded, it turns into a truly compact device. So does Samsung have a winner on its hands? Let's find out.

Incremental improvements

On the face of it, the Flip4 doesn't differ much from the Flip3 from a year ago. The hinge has become slightly thinner, with marginally tighter lines, and finished with frosted glass. Many of the features have also remained the same. The differences that do exist are subtle. For example, the camera and camera interface have been slightly improved, and the battery is a bit larger. However, this is still a compact phone that, when folded, is not much bigger than a deck of cards. And yet, a grand 6.7-inch display lurks inside the Flip4. It is the biggest plus of this device and this product category as a whole. That Samsung chooses to make minor improvements is wise as far as we are concerned. This is the future of cell phones, and the world should be able to get used to it.

Even sturdier, still visible crease

Samsung claims the 6.7-inch main screen is even more robust, up to a whopping 200,000 times opening and closing. For this, it applies Ultra Thin Glass; real glass that provides the necessary protection. And despite having a plastic layer (which you absolutely must not remove!), it also feels like glass. Above and below the fold, the screen also feels completely flat. The fold is still visible and tangible. Especially if you look at it from an angle, you can see it. However, if you look straight at it, it is invisible and falls seamlessly into the rest of the screen. Until you swipe your finger over it, for example, when scrolling. It is not disturbing, but we want to mention it.

Camera only the same on paper

Samsung has incorporated a trio of cameras into the Galaxy Z Flip4. Inside is still a 10MP selfie camera in a punch-hole at the top. And also outside is still a dual 12MP camera; one with an ultra-wide-angle lens and a primary main lens. Still, that one should shoot better pictures thanks to a 65% larger sensor. Bigger means more light-sensitive, resulting in better shots during screen time or in the dark. The Snapdragon 8 + Gen 1 processor also lends a hand. It provides the processing power needed to spit out better photo results using algorithms and AI. The processor also offers high-quality performance. This is the fastest Galaxy phone of its generation. And thanks to the larger 3700mAh battery with 25W fast charging, it lasts longer too.
