Too good to be true?

Suppose you are looking for a new mobile. One with a large and smooth screen, a large battery, with a good camera system and if you can also plug your own wired headphones into it then that's absolutely great. Then the Nord CE 2 Lite 5G from OnePlus is quite a good candidate. Especially considering its price because it's not expensive. And then thanks to its 5G support, it's also future-proof. That sounds almost too good to be true.

The necessary cost savings

We thought so too, which is why we looked into why the Nord CE 2 Lite 5G is so inexpensive. First of all, it's because of the processor choice. This is the 2021 midrange Snapdragon 695 processor that we see more often in budget phones. In itself, there is little wrong with this chipset but OnePlus is asking quite a lot of it. For example, it has to continuously provide the 120Hz screen with new images, which sometimes causes some hiccups. In doing so, it partly undoes the high refresh rate. Costs have also been saved on materials. For example, the back is plastic, although that is not necessarily a disadvantage. Plastic does not break as easily as glass, nor does it feel cold like metal.

Something we see more often in this price category. The limited resolution of 2 MP ensures that they add little in practice. Fortunately, the main camera does produce good results that largely compensate for that disadvantage.
