Nokia 5.4 product details
The Nokia 5.4 is an Android smartphone announced in late 2020 with a quadruple camera system on the back, a 6.39-inch screen on the front, and a 4000 mAh battery inside. And yet, it has to rely mostly on its price.
New screen with a downside
We like to compare a new phone to its predecessor. In the case of this Nokia 5.4, we like to take a look at the 5.3 from a year ago. We then see a slightly smaller screen of 6.38 inches, which is still relatively large. Gone is the V-shaped notch, and in its place there is now a punch-hole in the top left corner. This is meant for the 16 megapixel selfie camera. The screen has a maximum brightness of 400 nits which is not very much. Therefore, it will be difficult to read the screen outdoors in full daylight. The HD resolution is also a bit disappointing. Text looks a bit less sharp, although it will not bother you much with photos. Please note that we are talking about a phone in a very affordable price category. Everything is relative.

Quad camera of which only 1 is really useful
On the back of the Nokia 5.4, we find a quad camera system with a fine 48MP main camera and f/1.8 lens. This camera also has some useful features like cinematic video effects that make your videos look just a bit more professional. This camera is accompanied by three other cameras; a 5MP ultra wide angle, a 2MP depth camera and a 2MP macro camera. A separate zoom lens is unfortunately not available. Also, don't expect too much from the macro camera which allows you to take shots at very close range. Your resolution and light sensitivity is too low to take useful snapshots. Adding a macro camera is something that manufacturers have been doing lately. It looks nice on the box and in press releases, but in practice you rarely have any use for it. This trend may blow over in our opinion.
Main Nokia 5.4 specifications
- 6.53-inch IPS display with punch hole and HD resolution
- 48MP Quad camera with f/1.8 lens and cinema effects
- 16MP single selfie camera with f/2.0 lens
- 4000 mAh battery for 2 days of use but without fast charging
- Snapdragon 662 processor with 4GB RAM memory
- Android One with 2 years of upgrades and 3 years of updates
- Physical fingerprint scanner at the back for quick and secure access
Battery without fast charging and WiFi without 5GHz
Inside the Nokia 5.4, we find a Snapdragon 662 which is a fine chipset for mid-range phones like this 5.4. It is supported by 4GB of RAM memory, which is a bit meager, and there is a choice of 64 or 128 GB of storage memory. In both cases, this is expandable up to 512 GB by inserting a microSD card. There is also room for a 2nd SIM card (nanoSIM type). The battery has a maximum capacity of 4000 mAh but unfortunately cannot be charged quickly. What is also missing is support for 5GHz WiFi. It's funny that this frequency is missing, because it offers faster internet speeds. The 5.4 came out with Android 10 but will get at least 2 more upgrades. You will also get 3 years of security updates which will keep your device safe for longer.
