Like previous years, Huawei is releasing a price-conscious variant of its annual P series. The P10 Lite has almost the same look as the much more expensive P10, it even shares some features, but it is much cheaper.

Distinctly related

The Huawei P10 Lite, sometimes written as P10lite, succeeds the 2016 P9 Lite, which was already a price-conscious choice. Especially since this was not a budget or low-end model. Huawei's P Lite's have many high-end features that would not be out of place in any high-end model. But more on that later. The Huawei P10 Lite has a 5.2-inch Full HD screen. That's even bigger than its expensive brother, the P10. That space was there because, unlike that device, the fingerprint scanner is not placed on the front but on the back. This should be very familiar for diehard Huawei fans.

More than enough memory

Huawei fits a neat 4 GB of RAM, which is exceptionally large for a mid-range device. In fact, there is no point in having more RAM at the time of writing. The advantage of so much memory is that apps start up fast, and you can run several simultaneously. There is also standard 32 GB of storage space for your apps, videos, and photos. If that eventually becomes too little, you can buy a memory card and quickly expand it. Besides a memory card, you could also use that slot for a second SIM card. Hybrid dual SIM is the name of the game. It increases your freedom of choice, but you must choose between a memory card and a second SIM card.

Quick to use, long-lasting

The P10 Lite runs Android 7.0 Nougat from the box with Huawei's EMUI shell on top. This is handy because it contains additional features peculiar to Huawei phones. On the back of the P10 Lite, we find a 12-megapixel camera for all your snapshots. It shoots video in up to Full HD, also known as 1080p. This is a fraction lower than 4K, but this is not an expensive high-end flagship, but an affordable mid-range phone. Up front is an 8-megapixel camera for all your selfies. The fact that the Kirin 658 processor spins at up to 2.1 GHz means that apps start quickly, and your device feels smooth and responsive. That's not surprising; this processor (also called a chipset) has eight cores that each work hard for you. The 3,000 mAh battery, in turn, ensures you can enjoy it for a long time. Huawei gives a somewhat optimistic battery life but we still expect you to get through the day.
