A-GPS

A-GPS is the abbreviation of Assisted Global Positioning System. This technique combines GPS with information from the mobile network to determine a postion quicker.

The position can also be determined in highly populated areas (with a lot of buildings) because the mobile netwerk can easily detect where the sell phones are located. This information is obtained with the help of the Cell-ID of the basis station where the mobile phone is a part of. Tunnels, walls and bushes prevent the income of satellite signals that are necessary for the use of GPS. A-GPS solves this problem.
