“Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 Slim gets thinner, but doesn't break records”

According to some rumors, Samsung is working on a thinner version of the Galaxy Z Fold 6. Where other manufacturers have already managed to release similar foldables under 10 millimeters thick, the Fold 6 Slim presumably remains just above that.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 Slim, Fold 6 Ultra, already a few names have come up. But whatever name Samsung chooses, the new Fold will be a bit thinner than the current Galaxy Z Fold 6. At 12.1 millimeters folded, that one is still on the thick side. And that has its reasons.

Something like this but without the S Pen

Because the Fold 6 can be operated with a special S Pen. To do so, the screen must have an active digitizer; an additional screen layer about 0.6 millimeters thick. If Samsung omits that layer alone, the Fold 6 Slim comes out to a maximum of 11.5 millimeters thick.

Less than 11.5 mm

Perhaps Samsung will figure out other ways to slim down the Fold 6 Slim, although the possibilities seem limited. What does seem clear is that Samsung's new foldable will not break any records. Huawei, Honor and Xiaomi, for example, already have similar foldables in the range of between 9 and 10 millimeters thick.
