Oppo debuts Find N5 as thinnest foldable ever

Oppo has officially unveiled the foldable Find N5. It is the thinnest booklet-foldable yet and measures a whopping 4.21 millimeters thin when unfolded. And that's still thick enough for a 5,600 mAh battery and a total of five cameras including some from Hasselblad.

Thin but powerful is how Oppo sums up the Find N5 just fine. Even folded, the device measures 8.93 millimeters. That's comparable to normal candybar phones, let alone foldables. Those tend to be thicker than 10 millimeters. For example, Samsung's Fold 6 measures 12.1 millimeters when folded and the much thinner Fold Special Edition measures 10.6 millimeters.

Oppo Find N5: unreal thin

Despite this thin profile, the casing is strong thanks to an alloy titanium printed hinge and aluminum frame. The inner screen is protected by Ultra Thin Glass while the outer screen enjoys protection from 20% tougher Nanocrystal Glass. All of this is then IPX6, IPX8 and IPX9 water resistant. The -X in that coding means there is officially no protection from dust.

One phone, two screens

Outside on the Find N5 we find a 6.62-inch screen with high 2450 nits brightness and sharp 2616x1140 pixel resolution. Folded open, we get an even larger 8.12-inch screen with variable refresh between 1 and 120Hz and with a resolution of 2480 by 2248 pixels. The peak brightness here is slightly lower at 2100 nits. Both panels support HDR10+ and HDR Vivid for accurate color reproduction.

In collaboration with Hasselblad

On the back of the Oppo Find N5 we find a camera system made in collaboration with Hasselblad. The main camera consists of a 50MP sensor with OIS and f/1.89 lens. The sensor is so fast that it can capture 7 frames per second up to 200 frames long. That way you never miss a shot again.

Other camera features include a 50MP telephoto camera with 3x optical zoom and an 8MP ultra-wide angle. To get these into the thin body, Oppo had to use a smaller sensor for the main camera and the ultra-wide angle also had to go back in resolution; from 48 to 8 megapixels. Hasselblad was involved in its development, resulting in a portrait mode with background blur and soft light.

Thin or not, Oppo has managed to fit a 5600 mAh large battery. This is due to using a Silicon-carbon battery with a higher energy density of 801Wh/L. Charging can be done wired up to 80W and wirelessly with 50W. You do need a separately purchased AirVooc charger for the latter.

(For now) not in Europe

And then the final question; how much should the Oppo Find N5 cost and when will it be in stores? The Oppo Find N5 will come out with 16GB of RAM and 512GB of storage in Cosmic Black and Misty White colors. Prices start around €1800. As if that price wasn't bad enough already, it appears Oppo has no plans to release the device in Europe for now. Never say never, but for now you can only dream about the N5.
