MWC 2010: Microsoft officially announces Windows Mobile 7 series
A complete new Windows Mobile operating system is a fact. This afternoon Windows Phone 7 Series was presented by Steve Ballmer and consorts and the magic word is simplicity.
Windows Phone Series 7 does not resemble any other previous version of Microsoft's operating system for mobiel phones. Microsoft has focused especially on the homescreen on which we find many tiles. These are large, interactive keys linking to applications or contacts. In the case of contacts they are for instance automatically updated with eventual status updates.

On the homescreen we immediately find that Windows Phone 7 Series has games via Xbox LIVE and music via Zune. The tiles can be arranged by the user as preferred. Next to the tiles is an arrow within a circle which actually opens the menu. This is no more than an alphabetically ordered list with simple pictograms.

It all revolves around the integration of online information and different Apps with Windows Phone. Windows has created six so-called hubs. These have following themes as people, pictures, games, music + video, marketplace and office.

During the press presentation they announced that every Windows device will have three hardware keys. Namely a back-key, Windows-key and a search-key. For the production of the Windows Phone 7 Series devices, Windows has partnered with Dell, Garmin-Asus, HTC, HP, LG, Samsung, Sony Ericsson and Toshiba. The first models can be expected at the end of 2010 and HTC has already announced that they are working on devices.
