Oppo warms us up for Find N5, thinnest foldable yet

Oppo is preparing for the launch of the Oppo Find N5. This foldable device is supposed to be the thinnest foldable at the moment. How thin we don't know yet. The foldable should come out sometime in February, so we won't have to wait long before we get an answer to this.

Oppo has two types of foldables in its lineup; one that folds open like a book, and one that unfolds like an old-fashioned folding phone. The Oppo Find N5 promises to be one of that first category. Until now, Oppo did not release it in Europe.

Oppo Find N5 gets thinner than a pencil

Liu Zuohu, also known in the West as Pete Lau, has posted the above image of the Find N5. In it, the device is hidden behind a pencil, which is generally about 7 millimeters thick. If Oppo wants to live up to the claim of world's thinnest foldable then the device will have to be thinner than 4.35 millimeters. That's how thin the Honor Magic V3 folds open.

On the right track

But since foldables consist of at least two parts, and they are still transported folded, the thickness of both parts is still particularly important. For the Magic V3 that then comes out to 9.3 millimeters, which is thin but still slightly thicker than non-foldables.

Should Oppo manage to take another millimeter off that, the argument that foldables are thicker than regular smartphones will be dropped. That plus the many advantages of foldables makes the Oppo Find N5 an interesting phone beforehand.

Oppo also did release the Find N models in Europe through sister company OnePlus. The OnePlus Open is an example of that.
