Usefulness 5G support

There is actually 1 good reason to prefer the S20 5G over the (cheaper) S20 4G: it is more future proof. We aren't replacing our mobile phone each year like we used to. By the time 5G is rolled out nation wide, you will be able to use it from day one. The possibilities of 5G are promising, think of higher speeds and lower latency. Ideal for downloading movies or online gaming. But that will be of no use as long as there is no 5G network. And at the time of writing there is none. It will come, that's for sure, but when you will be able to use it is not yet clear.

Smooth 120Hz screen

Furthermore, this Galaxy S20 5G shares much of the regular S20. Think of a 6.2 inch Infinity-O Display. It has thin screen bezels and only a small hole punch for the 10 megapixel selfie camera. As with the S10, it is no longer conspicuously in the corner but nice in the centre. The screen now refreshes images at a maximum of 120 Hz instead of the 60 Hz used on the S10. This results in 2x smoother animations while scrolling. It also draws a little more power, so it only works in a slightly lower screen resolution. If you want the maximum resolution of 3200 by 1400 pixels then you will have to settle for 60 Hz.

More RAM memory

New in the camera area are the improved zoom possibilities. Instead of 2x you can now zoom up to 3x without loss of quality. So you get closer without sacrificing quality. You get even closer with 30x digital zoom, but images become blurry. All this is made possible by the new 64 megapixel camera sensor. A big improvement compared to the 'only' 16 megapixel on the S10. What is also more is battery capacity. It grew to 4000 mAh, is capable of wired fast charging and even does wireless charging (Fast Wireless Charging 2.0). This 5G version is equipped with a little more RAM memory so you can quickly open apps and switch between them. What's missing, but we seem used to that by now, is the headphone jack. Apparently we have to get used to it from Samsung, because no S20 model is equipped with it.
