The Samsung Galaxy S20+ 5G is the 5G version of the S20 Plus and therefore a future-proof member of the S20 family. The S20 series announced in 2020 is quite extensive and therefore this S20+ 5G runs the risk of being forgotten. Too bad because it has a lot to offer. What exactly is something we are going to find out for here.
This is actually the standard model S20+ that Samsung releases. Although also the 4G model is sold, you hardly see it in combination with a contract. To make things easy for ourselves, we now call it 'just' the Samsung Galaxy S20+. The best we can compare it with its predecessor; the S10+. Then we immediately notice the slightly larger casing. And yet, the screen has become considerably larger; going up from 6.4 to 6.7 inches. This is due to the much thinner screen bezels. Also, the oversized hole punch for the double selfiecam has disappeared. Instead you get a small punch hole in the center. This allows room for a single 10 megapixel selfiecam with autofocus. Basically enough for all your selfie-adventures.
Other improvements can be found on the display. It now has a refresh rate of 120 Hertz. By refreshing images as much as 120 times per second you get smoother animations, for example while scrolling through your contact list or Twitter feed. Not only does that look beautiful, it also eats up a little more battery. That is why it is good that Samsung has placed a larger 4500 mAh battery in the S20+. What's more, it is intelligent, so it adapts to your habits. It saves even more so you can easily get one day on a full charge. And if that isn't enough, the 25 Watt quick charger that comes in the box will get you up and running in no time. A big improvement compared to the 15 Watt charger of the S10+. You can also charge the Galaxy S20+ wirelessly via Fast Wireless Charging 2.0. You can even give away power wirelessly. Charges other phones or your new wireless Galaxy Buds+ earbuds. Just put the charging case on the back, that's it.
Do we have anything to complain about? Absolutely! For instance that the headphone port is missing. No flagship Samsung Galaxy phone is equipped with the port anymore. Listening to music via your own favorite wired headphones has to be done via a dongle. You can also use the included AKG plugs, it's up to you. It is also noticeable that not much has changed spectacularly on the S20+. Many specifications have remained the same. However, the design has become more modern and the upgrades that are included are very subtle and easy to use. Better image stabilization for video, filming in 8K, the higher refresh rate of the screen and of course being ready for 5G. Piece by piece upgrades that are very welcome and make it very future proof.
