The Samsung Galaxy A50 is besides a large Android phone with large battery a complete new start for Samsung. Together with the A30, it forms the starting point of the completely new Galaxy A-series. We are going to investigate exactly what that means and what you can get out of it.
Samsung's Galaxy A Series has always guaranteed premium phones at a friendly price. Fortunately, that has not changed with the introduction of the renewed Galaxy A50. What is new, however, is that Samsung has stepped up its pace in the area of premium in order to keep up with the competition. For example, this A50 has three cameras with different lenses on the back. For example, there is a 25 megapixel camera with an f/1.7 lens that even shoots photos in the dark. The 8 megapixel camera is equipped with an f/2.2 wide-angle lens with an angle of view of no less than 123 degrees. This allows you to capture an entire landscape in one photo. This corresponds reasonably well with the field of view of the human eye and therefore delivers realistic photos. There is also a 5 megapixel camera for sharpness/depth. The camera also actively thinks along with you to choose the best settings and gives suggestions to, for example, change lenses if that gives you better photos.
Samsung has equipped the Galaxy A50 with a fairly large colorful screen. In terms of size, it measures 6.4 inches, but thanks to the thin edges, the housing is not overly large. The panel is a so-called Super AMOLED, which guarantees a large contrast with deep black tones and good legibility outside. At the top is a small notch for the 20 megapixel selfie camera, which is also equipped with Selfie Focus. This allows you to shoot selfies with a blurry background. The screen also has an integrated fingerprint scanner. So it's no longer on the back or in the side. Before you use a screen protector, make sure it can handle it. The fingerprint scanner works with ultrasonic sound and some screenprotectors do not let this through properly.
Samsung hopes to distinguish itself with the Galaxy A50 by applying a large screen, modern dimensions, built-in fingerprint scanner and of course a large battery. With the A50, this battery measures no less than 4000 mAh, which is a bit of a smart phone concept on the hefty side. Charging is extra fast thanks to the included 15 Watt quick charger. This is done with a reversible USB-C cable so you no longer have to search for the top and bottom in the dark. Wireless charging is unfortunately not included with the A50. The Exynos 9610 processor is Samsung's own and has a flagship 6 GB of RAM memory. More than enough to quickly load and change apps.
