The Oppo Reno8 Lite is a relatively affordable 5G phone with luminous rings around the camera. What you get out of these Dual Orbit Lights, whether they are worthwhile or just a gimmick read here.
The Reno8 Lite 5G is the simplest in the Reno8 series and should particularly appeal to a younger audience. Oppo hopes to do that by focusing on the design of the device. For example, there is a striking Rainbow Spectrum version available that consists of five layers, giving it a different color from every angle. Another eye-catching feature is the Dual Orbit Lights. These are luminous rings around the rear cameras. These alert you to incoming calls or received messages. You can also turn them on at any time for extra attention. According to Oppo, the lights consume only 1% per two hours of battery but you can also turn them off.
Also an eye-catcher is the 6.43-inch screen up front. That's compact by today's standards. Especially since Oppo has used thin screen bezels with a single selfie camera in the upper left corner. That camera has a sharp resolution of 16MP using an f/2.4 lens. The screen is reasonably bright with a 600nits bright AMOLED panel. Too bad somewhere though is the regular 60Hz refresh rate. Competitors mostly apply a faster screen refresh rate of 90 or even 120Hz with which animations look very smooth.
Inside the Reno 8 Lite 5G, Oppo fits a neat 4500mAh battery that can be charged quickly thanks to the included SuperVOOC charger. Also inside is a Snapdragon 695 processor from Qualcomm. That's a mid-range chipset from the bottom category. It's not blazing fast but for everyday use it will be more than enough. There is a fair amount of storage memory available, 128GB, and expandable by up to another 1TB. The rear camera module consists of a 64+2+2MP setup. The main camera is fine, but the other two are a bit disappointing. They are a 2MP black and white sensor and a 2MP macro camera that do not add much due to their low resolution and specific application.
