The Motorola Moto G72 is an affordable 4G phone with a high 108-megapixel resolution camera. It was the cheapest phone at the time of writing with that many megapixels. But it takes more to make a good phone. In this description, we will find out if Motorola has succeeded.
The Moto G72's most significant selling point, of course, is its camera. After all, with a resolution of 108 megapixels, many other phones don't even come close. It immediately cranks up the age-old discussion about "more megapixels is not better pictures." Something they understand at Motorola, too. And that's why the G72's Ultra Pixel camera does "pixel binning. Combining nine pixels into one ultra pixel creates photos with a resolution of 12MP. The result is ultra-sharp photos with extra light, even at night. The G72 also features an 8MP camera with a 118° ultra-wide-angle lens and a 2MP Macro Vision camera for extreme close-ups. Optical zoom is unfortunately not included, and you can't record 4K video either.
On the front, the Motorola G72 features a bright pOLED screen with a diagonal of 6.6 inches. That is spacious enough to peer at for long periods. The panel supports 10 bits, theoretically allowing it to display 1 billion colors. That's enough for HDR10+ content. So expect life-like colors. Also neat is that the screen has a high refresh rate of 120Hz. This makes movements look extra smooth. Furthermore, expect stereo sound with spatial Dolby Atmos support. And thanks to the built-in 5000mAh, you can consume content for a long time. That battery is big enough for about two days of use. Once empty, recharge it in no time with the 30W quick charger.
Motorola's parent company, Lenovo, has equipped the Moto G72 with a MediaTek Helio G99 processor. That's a chipset built on 6nm and with 8GB of RAM. It's a mid-range processor but can keep up well, partly thanks to the generous amount of RAM. Storage memory reaches 128GB and is even expandable with a microSD card. It also fits two SIM cards, but that second SIM card takes up the space of the memory card. Hybrid Dual SIM is what it is called. The casing is further water resistant with an IP rating of IP52, making it a complete package.
