The LG G8s ThinQ is the more affordable flagship of LG with some impressive features. For example a Z-Camera with depth recognition and infrared, Air Motion hand control, DTS stereo sound and powerful performance thanks to the Snapdragon 855. But for just a little less money.
But we need to clarify something right away. There are 2 versions of the G8s ThinQ in circulation; with Single SIM and Dual SIM. The device we describe here is the one where you can put 2 SIM cards. Unfortunately the possibility to insert a memory card is no longer available. But with a standard 128GB of storage memory, this is not a bad thing. Now that that is out of the way, we take a closer look at the G8s ThinQ. The device is equipped with a 6.2 inch OLED screen. This is the best screen type you can get at the moment because it is very colorful with a lot of contrast. So black is really black. At the top of the screen is a notch, a bite. It is quite wide, but LG uses it. On the right side of the 8MP selfiecamera there is a depth sensor (ToF) and an infrared-illuminator. LG calls the latter 2 combined the 'Z Camera'. In addition to faces in 3D, it can also accurately recognize hands. Unlock your phone with the unique vein pattern of your hand. Nice but we doubt if anyone will ever use it more than twice.
The Z Camera can also be used to control your G8s ThinQ. It recognizes minute hand movements just above the screen. So you can adjust the volume by pretending to turn a knob. It's called Air Motion. Spooky but no more than that. In this respect, the 3 cameras on the back are more useful. This Triple Camera has a primary f/1.8 lens, a f/2.4 ultra-wide-angle lens with an extra wide 136° angle of view and a f/2.6 telephoto lens to zoom with. Especially the latter is a welcome addition because many other manufacturers nowadays use their 3rd camera lens to take very close shots (macro). The nice thing about the three cameras is that they can take a picture at the same time and put them together in an animation. Video has also been thought of with an extra stable image stabilization and Blur Effect where you can blur the background. For photos this is now common for phones but for video it is quite special.
You'll also find stereo speakers with spacious DTS:X 3D sound and a waterproof IP68 rounded glass enclosure. LG equipped the G8s ThinQ with the best processor available at the time; the Snapdragon 855. This not only enables all the features the G8s has, it also makes them fast. Inside is 3550 mAh large battery and despite the fact that larger batteries are available, it still achieves excellent battery life. And even if it didn't, it still supports fast charging to get back on the road. There is even support for wireless charging. All in all a complete package for a relatively competitive price.
