The Honor Magic5 Pro is a high-end flagship sitting just one step below the Magic5 Ultimate. However, the price is still hefty, but you get a lot in return. How about a camera with 100x zoom? What else you can read here.
Honor who? The brand is a sister company of China's Huawei, or better said, was. Huawei was hit hard by US sanctions and, in those heated moments, threatened to drag Honor down with it. Honor was taken over by the local government in Shenzhen in 2020, allowing it to continue its operations in the rest of the world. Thank goodness because the Chinese make rock-solid phones at a reasonable price. This Magic5 Pro has a higher price than we are used to from Honor, but then again, it is very high-end.
I am starting with the screen, which measures a generous 6.81 inches, which can be called hefty. The screen has rounded corners and a razor-sharp picture quality thanks to its high 2848x1312 pixel resolution. The screen is also very bright. With a peak brightness of 1800 nits, even the sun cannot outshine it. Images refresh between 1 and 120 times per second, depending on what you're looking at. All this to save battery power. The more than 1 billion colors it can display make for life-like viewing, ideal for watching movies.
Another strong selling point of the Honor Magic 5 Pro is its cameras. Of course, most attention goes to the 50MP primary camera with an impressively bright f/1.6 lens. The sensor features optical image stabilization for sharper photos. Honor also provides the other two cameras with a 50MP large sensor. Both the ultra-wide-angle and the telephoto zoom camera have the exact resolution. Noteworthy about the latter is its extensive zoom range. Optically, the camera can zoom in up to 3.5 times and digitally even up to 100 times. Enough to capture the surface of the moon. Up front sits a 12MP camera with a separate 3D depth camera for reliable face recognition.
Finally, let's turn our attention to performance. That's alright, thanks to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 with a whopping 12GB of RAM. The storage memory is not expandable, but with 512GB, it doesn't have to be. The battery measures an above-average 5100mAh in capacity and, with a whopping 66W, can be charged extra quickly. Wireless is also possible, with no less than 50W. Much faster than regular flagships. Furthermore, the device is already Wi-Fi 7-ready and runs MagicOS 7.1, based on Android 13, so this Magic5 Pro can get along with Google and Android apps.
