The Honor 70 is a 5G phone with a stylish design and with an excellent price tag. This is an excellent phone for the average user where Honor has made a good tradeoff between features and cost. Exactly how well we are trying to find out here.
The Honor 70 is part of an entire series that also includes the Honor 70 Lite, 70 Pro and 70 Pro+. Our Honor 70 5G may call itself the face of that series and will account for the majority of buyers. Partly because not the entire series is available everywhere and this 70 5G is mostly. What immediately stands out is its design. Honor is clearly throwing it in a different direction. In particular, the blue, green and silver versions really stand out. Each plays with the light falling on it in its own way. The dual camera modules, both round, are also distinctive. Even considering that they house a total of three cameras.
The front screen is rounded on both sides. We've seen that more often before, but didn't appeal to everyone. Honor says the curves make the 70 5G feel better in the hand. The screen measures a generous 6.67 inches and can is so colorful that it can display the full DCI-P3 color gamut. The screen is also very fast thanks to its smooth 120Hz display. To stare at this for long periods of time, Honor has equipped the device with a 4800 mAh large battery. What is special about this is how fast it can be charged. With a whopping 66W, the charger pumps an empty battery to 60% in 20 minutes.
Special attention has been paid to the cameras. The main camera has received a 54MP large IMX800 sensor from Sony with a bright f/1.9 lens. Tests show that this somewhat crazy resolution shoots very good pictures, even in the dark. Not much lower in resolution is the ultra-wide-angle camera. This features a 50MP sensor and has a 122° angle of view. It also shoots sharp images from 2.5 centimeters thanks to its macro function. The third camera is a 2MP depth camera that helps the other cameras recognize depth. Videos the Honor 70 5G shoots in up to 4K. It does not do optical image stabilization, you only have access to electronic stabilization (EIS). Honor equips the 70 with Android 12 and MagicUI 6.1 and has announced that there will be two Android upgrades and three years of security updates. A bit meager but at least it's something.
