Honor is a sub-brand of Chinese Huawei. In addition to mobile phones, the company also makes wearables, tablets and even laptops. In Europe, however, we mainly encounter telephones. Honor focuses mainly on mid-range and high-end smartphones that it can sell cheaply by removing a large part of the middlemen.
Honor series
Honor's phones are largely based on existing Huawei models. This saves on development costs, which in turn translates into a competitive starting price. We also see many Huawei components such as the Kirin processor made by subsidiary HiSilicon. The most important series for Honor is simply the name with a number that is increased every year with a new model. There are also other series;
- View - High-end phablet models
- Magic - Smartphones with innovative features
- Play - Gaming phones
- -A series - Entry-level versions of existing models
- -C series - Budget series (does not come out here anymore)
- -X series - High-end models
- -S series - Relatively new budget series
- -Lite series - Entry version of existing models
The -V, Note and -i series have never appeared here.
Honor history
The Honor brand, sometimes exclusively written with a capital letter, started in 2013. Then it was founded by Huawei to conquer the Chinese market with affordable models. This low price is achieved by cutting costs. On the one hand, the Honor succeeds by using many Huawei designs and components and, on the other hand, by simplifying the distribution chain. In the beginning, models were only for sale online at Honor. This was at the expense of availability, something that is now better in order by working with multiple providers.
Honor has been active in the Netherlands since 2014 but withdrew at the beginning of 2018 because sales were not satisfactory. Previously, it closed the online VMall store, making new models available only sparsely. At the end of 2018 the brand returned thanks to a collaboration with Belsimpel.
For The Brave
The slogan of Honor is "For the Brave" which should appeal especially to young people who are the intended target group of Honor. Thanks to sponsorship of extreme sports and collaborations with Fortnite, for example, the underlying idea of the slogan needs to be underlined.
EMUI and MagicOS
Honor has traditionally used the EMUI skin of parent company Huawei for its smartphones. It runs on Google's Android operating system and therefore has millions of paid and free apps at its disposal. However, since 2018 Honor has also sporadically applied its own MagicOS. It started with the models Magic 2 and View 20.
