HMD Global is originally a Finnish company stemming from the former Nokia. It even sits at the Nokia Campus in Espoo, Finland. The letters HMD stand for Human Mobile Devices.
History HMD Global
After Nokia's phone business was sold to Microsoft in 2014, part of it was bought back in 2016 by a new company called HMD Global. It obtained the rights to use the Nokia name on phones.
HMD Global was founded by a number of former Nokia employes with support from Taiwan's Foxconn. In late 2016, HMD Global released its first Nokia phone; the Nokia 150, which was a fairly simple featurephone. Not much later in 2017, HMD Global announced its first Nokia smartphone; the Nokia 6.
