The Google Pixel 6 Pro is a high-end professional flagship after years of absence. This smartphone is completely designed and made entirely by Google, right down to the chipset. This Tensor processor gives it capabilities that no other smartphones has. What exactly we will explain here.
Along with the Pixel 6, Google is stepping back into the high-end segment. This Pro differs from the "entry-level" 6 in only a few ways. A telephoto camera with 4x optical zoom, a smoother and larger screen and a slightly larger battery. That's it. Whether the considerably higher price is justifiable with that, you will have to judge for yourself. Personally, we would not want to go without optical zoom but that's us. Speaking of which. The 48MP telephoto camera with 4x optical zoom can digitally zoom in up to 20x. This gets you even closer to your subject without even taking a step. The selfie camera is also different. The Pro has chosen a slightly higher 11.1 megapixel sensor with f/2.2 lens. This gives a field of view of 94° which allows you to take group selfies.
Then there's a 50MP main camera and a 12MP ultra-wide-angle with 114° angle of view. That main camera is larger this year and therefore more light sensitive. You'll have to use flash less often because of this, giving you more unnatural shots. Pixel phones have always been good with automatically choosing exposure, contrast and color. This year, the HDR+ feature also works for the video camera up to a whopping 4K. Video finally looks good too. Thanks to the Tensor processor, the Pixel 6 Pro has additional functions including Magic Eraser. Here, you can remove people or objects from photos at will. Even photos that you have taken before. Motion Mode can add motion to your photos. Think of a subway in the background, the wheels of a bicycle or a spinning Ferris wheel. Face Unblur can bring faces into focus in blurry photos so you can still get a usable photo. Then there's Portrait Mode to blur backgrounds. This now works for darker skinned people too, thanks to Real Tone technology.
All this extra functionality is made possible by Google's own Tensor processor. This processor particularly excels in the field of Machine Learning. Google's algorithms rely heavily on this and therefore these functions are possible for the first time. It is also used for recognizing speech. The 6 Pro is able to convert this speech effortlessly and in real time into text, if necessary translated into another language. Handy for traveling. Phone calls can be written out for you and the emergency number can be called for you if you are involved in an accident. Pixel then makes the call on your behalf and passes on the location.
All this beauty is in a waterproof body that is made entirely of Gorilla Glass Victus. The screen in front is 6.7 inches and has a high 120Hz refresh rate for extra smooth images. The battery can be charged quickly, even wirelessly. And as with all Pixel phones, updates arrive at lightning speed and this year for a long time. At least 3 years of Android upgrades and security updates are even promised for 5 more years. This makes the Pixel 6 Pro a future-proof choice.
