The Alcatel 1X, officially with lowercase x, is an inexpensive Android Go phone with a fairly modern look and feel. That has everything to do with its large screen ratio of 18:9 where you almost get sucked into. In this description, we'll go deeper into all the features and what you'll get out of it.
It is not for nothing that Alcatel in its press release what it sent on the occasion of the introduction of the 1x immediately started talking about the FullView 18:9 screen. It is both literally and figuratively the eye-catcher of the device. Normally you will find such an elongated screen with thin edges on much more expensive phones. The fact that Alcatel has succeeded in placing it in a phone of less than 100 euros is praiseworthy. Alcatel applies a resolution of 960 by 480 pixels, which is popularly called FWVGA+.
And yet this screen is not the most interesting, that's the fact that the Alcatel 1x is an Android Go phone. In full Android Go Edition, the Alcatel 1x runs a stripped down version of Android Oreo intended for phones with less powerful hardware. That may sound a bit derogatory, but it is actually very positive. It means that Google keeps track of the software for you, which makes for a safer device with fresh software. Moreover, due to the lack of unnecessary software and apps, you have a nice responsive device. And that for little money.
Alcatel does something crazy with the cameras on the Alcatel 1x; the 13 megapixel camera on the back sees photos in a 16 megapixel resolution. Personally, we are not like that. It means that the 1x pixel magic that isn't there, they are made up and that doesn't always improve the quality. The selfie camera does the same trick even though it goes from 5 to 8 megapixels. We do get cheerful from the fact that both the back and the front have their own flash. This is especially useful when shooting selfies in the dark. Alcatel immediately delivers a few photo apps so you can get started right out of the box. We also find it handy that you can put two SIM cards in the Alcatel 1x at the same time. This way, you can be reached at two numbers in one device, you can also exchange a SIM card with a data subscription with a SIM card specifically for voice. There is also a single SIM version of the Alcatel 1x, but it is not sold in the Netherlands.
