The peak brightness of the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra may be even higher than we previously thought. According to new information, Samsung could boost it up to 2600 nits. In doing so, it surpasses the brightness of the Apple iPhone 15 Pro.
This rumor about the S24 Ultra comes from @AhmedQwaider888. Last year, he correctly predicted what colors the Galaxy S23 would arrive.
Cell phone screens are getting brighter and brighter. And especially peak brightness. This makes reading the screen outdoors for brief periods in full sunlight possible. Samsung, Apple, and Google are trying to dethrone each other in this area.
Brightest screen today
The phone with the brightest screen seems to be the recently announced OnePlus 12. Some parts of it can light up to 4500 nits. However, if we consider the whole panel, it does not exceed 1600 nits. Then the iPhone 15 Pro outdones it with 2000 nits. Even brighter is the screen on the Google Pixel 8 Pro with 2400 nits. If the rumors are true, the S24 Ultra goes well above that with 2600 nits.
The main disadvantage of a bright screen is that it drains the battery much faster. Therefore, peak brightness only works for brief periods. Therefore, manufacturers often also work with a much lower typical screen brightness. It will undoubtedly be a lot less but still high. So remember, peak brightness is not useless because it does make reading in sunlight better.
S24 Ultra announcement
Samsung will in all likelihood announce the S24 series, consisting of the S24, S24+ and S24 Ultra, in early 2024 during a yet-to-be-announced Unpacked Event. A possible date for this is Jan. 17. That's a little earlier than usual. Samsung is expected to announce the S24 series in Apple's backyard in the US.
