Earlier in August, the first photos appeared showing the Google Pixel 9a. Now someone again got their hands on a copy and captured that joyous moment for us. Can we compare them right away.
But first this; the launch of the Pixel 9a is likely to take some time. Usually, Google releases its cheaper Pixel a model simultaneously with the unveiling of a new Android version. That's usually sometime in the fall.

But the launch of Android is shaking up in 2025. There will be a feature drop in the first quarter of 2025, a big SDK update in the second year as we are used to, another feature drop in the third quarter with a small SDK update in the fourth quarter. This killer pace should deter competitors and provide consumers with faster updates.
Two Android updates in 2025
What does all this have to do with the Google Pixel 9a? Perhaps we will get the device as early as the second quarter. Google might use the small SDK update later in the year, perhaps aimed at bringing AI features, to announce the Pixel 10.
This could explain why we saw the Pixel 9a so early. Back to the now surfaced photos. Apart from the lines on the back, they match previously released photos. The logo used indicates a prototype, something Google does more often.

There are also stickers on the device, under which the IMEI number can be seen. That should make it easy for Google to track down the person who carelessly handled their test sample. Let's hope the consequences for that person are not too bad.
