Google has made improvements to its Pixel 8 line-up with a software update. This Feature Drop improves and adds new features—especially for the Pixel 8 Pro.
Google has released the Feature Drop for December for the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro. These include an improved GPU driver that will make certain games run smoother. According to @MishaalRahman, Genshin Impact and Fortnite, for example, benefit from this.
According to a blog post from Google, the Feature Drop also brings AI features to the Pixel 8 Pro. The new Gemini model will be available in a slimmed-down form to create summaries of voice memos or predict answers in Gboard. It is eventually planned that other Pixel models, including the Pixel 8, will also have access to these generative AI applications.
Video Boost
Another new feature that relies heavily on AI is Video Boost. This, too, only works on the Pixel 8 Pro. It uploads the video to the cloud, then adjusts colors and exposure, stabilizes the image, and adds sharpness. Video Boost also works at night in low light.
This Feature Drop also brings improvements for still photos. The portrait mode, for example, has been improved, allowing you to adjust lighting afterward. Pet owners will be pleased to learn that Photo Unblur also works with their four-legged friends. This is convenient because dogs or cats tend not to sit perfectly still for the perfect shot.
Repair Mode
Google is also adding a new feature called Repair Mode. When you send your device in for repair, you can enable this mode without doing a factory reset first. Your data will be preserved but not visible to unauthorized persons.
