Honor has announced the X8b. It doesn't stand out because of its extremely thin 6.78-millimeter body, stylish green cover, or even its 108MP primary camera. No, it's the pill-shaped 50MP selfie camera called Magic Capsule. Like Apple's Dynamic Island, it comes with accompanying animations.
Honor calls the pill-shaped cutout on the front of the X8b the "Magic Capsule". According to Honor, it shows real-time additional app information. Honor's brief demo shows a countdown timer and an alarm clock. Whether Honor makes more of its apps compatible or whether developers can use it for their apps is still unknown.
The sizeable front cutout is not just for the 50MP portrait camera. It also houses a selfie flash that illuminates soft light for natural-looking selfies. A 108MP primary camera at the back adds lots of details to photos. Also available is a 5MP wide-angle camera and a 2MP depth camera. The eye-catcher is the 6.7-inch AMOLED screen that shines 2000 nits bright.
Extra thin with consequences
The body is remarkably thin, with just 6.78 millimeters. As a result, there was no room for a battery bigger than 4500 mAh. Fast charging is possible with up to 35 watts, and storage memory is available in 128, 256, and even 512 GB versions. Expect three colors: Titanium Silver, Midnight Black, and Glamourous Green. The latter is the only one with a motif on the back.
Inquiry price Honor X8b
Honor is using the Snapdragon 680 for the Honor X8b. That chipset comes without 5G support, which means the X8b is unlikely to be sold in every country. Where it does go on sale, the asking price will be around 200 euros. Not bad for an iPhone 15 clone.
