Symbian gets funded for 22 million euros by the European Union. With the money, the Symbian Foundatation should work on next generation technologies for the Symbian platform. The reach that goal, a 24 company consortium has been initiated.
The 24 companies have their HQ in 8 different European countries. Together, they're called SYMBEOSE (Symbian – the Embedded Operating System for Europe). Among other things, the consortium seeks to develop low power techniques and cloud computiong.
Funders of the money
The funds for Symbian are part of the Artemis Joint Undertaking, an organization that had a buget of 93,34 million euros to invest this year. About 60 million dollar came from European countries, the other part from European companies (among which is Nokia).
Italy, Germany, The Netherlands and Finland have the largest share in the donations. Italy and Germany contribute 8 million euros, The Netherlands and Finland 6 million. With these numbers, we can calculate the exact contribution to Symbian per country. Italy and Germy pay 2.9 million euros, Finland and The Netherland 2.2 million.
