Would you be willing to pay for Siri? Or for ChatGPT on your phone? Samsung thinks you do and is releasing the Galaxy S24 with unique AI features, which you must pay monthly. At least, that's the rumor of the day.
Every self-respecting company nowadays is doing something with AI. Otherwise, you don't fit in. Sorry, but we didn't make up those rules either. Samsung has invested heavily in Bixby but is nowhere near rivaling Google Assistant or ChatGPT. But that may change starting with the S24. And that may come at a cost.
Some of these generative AI features will only be available via subscription. At least that's what @Tech_Reve thinks. Those better are some killer features because, to date, these subscription-based services are not in high demand. After all, who do you know has a ChatGPT subscription? At the AI Forum 2023 event, Samsung showcased an AI model called Gauss, but it is not a concrete product yet.

Samsung could use the subscription money to hire server capacity to perform those AI functions. That sounds a lot like what the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro are currently doing. However, those functions don't cost any additional money. Whether Samsung's subscription-based AI functions are true remains to be seen.
January 17 in San Jose
Samsung, meanwhile, seems so convinced of the future success of the Galaxy S24 series that it plans to announce the phones in Apple's backyard. That should happen Jan. 17, 2024, in San Jose, California. In addition to the Galaxy S24, the S24 Plus and S24 Ultra are then also expected here.
