A discount on the new BlackBerry Bold 9790 has caused riots in Indonesia where 90 people reportedly were injured. The rioting took place last Friday.
The Bold 9790, one of the newest models of BlackBerry, was sold for half of the normal price. A substantial discount for a newly-introduced device. So many came down on the offer, at a store in Jakarta. Three people were hospitalized with broken bones.
Smartphones of RIM, the maker of BlackBerry, are very popular in Indonesia. In other countries, the brand suffers from declining popularity, but in the archipelago, RIM remains unaffected. In other markets, such as the U.S., the BlackBerry smartphones are losing ground compared to Android devices and Apple's iPhone, which attracts more and more corporate customers.
