After Samsung unveiled the Galaxy Ring, reactions were remarkably positive. And despite the steep price, sales are also going well. Reason enough for Samsung to work on the Galaxy Ring 2. And that one gets one very important improvement.
Samsung wants to improve the battery life of the Galaxy Ring 2. Concerns that this will make the ring thicker are unfounded; in fact, the jewel will be thinner than the first-generation Galaxy Ring.
All this is according to a blog post on a South Korean forum. It is also possible that the Ring 2 will come earlier than planned, although no one outside Samsung knows what the original schedule was.
New features
The post also talks about new features without mentioning which ones they are. Our guess is that Samsung is adding new sensors to the Ring 2 in addition to the existing three:
- Accelerometer
- Optical Bio-signal sensor
- Skin temperature sensor
There is also a possibility that Samsung will add functionality to the Samsung Health app. This is indispensable for reading and viewing data due to the lack of a screen and input capabilities. Perhaps Samsung has come up with yet another additional AI feature.
The current Galaxy Ring needs to be charged every 5 to 7 days via a separate charging case. Competitors also promise similar battery times although the Oura Ring 4 is slightly above that at 8 days.
Samsung announced the Galaxy Ring in April of 2024. An annual update cycle is obvious, but if Samsung wants to release the Ring 2 earlier than planned we might see the ring simultaneously with the S25 launch.
