Apple announces iPad mini 2024 with A17 Pro chip

Apple has announced the new iPad mini via a press release. The 7th generation iPad mini gets a new Apple A chip that will be able to handle Apple Intelligence in the future. There will also be more memory versions and some minor updates here and there.

The biggest change to the iPad mini 7 is the presence of the Apple A17 Pro chip. This makes it 30% more powerful than its predecessor. It had to be since the iPad mini 6 dates back to 2021. In that respect, the speed difference can be called modest.

The 64 GB entry-level model is gone and several memory versions are coming in return. Choices now include 128, 256 and 512 GB. The starting price is the same, according to Apple. We also find WiFi 6E, Bluetooth 5.3 and an eSIM. The latter feature can only be found on the WiFi + Cellular model. The WiFi-only model is without 4G, 5G and GPS.

Much of the same

All other features remain the same. For example, the Liquid Retina screen still measures 8.3 inches and the tablet can be operated with an Apple Pencil (Pro). The iPad mini 2024 comes with iPadOS 18 that has Apple Intelligence built in. All AI features have yet to be released in the EU.
