HMD 'Moon Knight' promises to be first "high-end" HMD smartphone

Presence of POGO pins indicates expandable accessories

HMD has already launched some of its own phones after exclusively releasing Nokia phones. Although these were very creditable, they were mainly entry-level and mid-range models. That may be about to change as HMD is reportedly working on a flagship.

Proof of this provides @smahsx_60 by reporting that the HMD Moon Knight runs under the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 processor. While that is not a Snapdragon 8 Gen 4, the Qualcomm chipset is in the top Snapdragon 8 series.

Moon Knight is said to be a code name, so the final name may be different. The device, according to the same source, will have an OLED screen with FHD+ resolution and 144Hz display. There would be four cameras on the back and the source talks about POGO pins. That piques our interest.

POGO pins

These contact points are often used for smartwatches to charge but are unusual for smartphones. There we see POGO pins mainly used to attach accessories. The previously announced HMD Fusion also featured POGO pins for the so-called Smart Outfits.

So perhaps the Moon Knight will also have these or perhaps accessories of its own. We may get an answer to that soon as the source hopes to publish renders and more specs soon.

Qualcomm Snapdragon 8s Gen 3

Qualcomm announced the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 in March of 2024 as a cheaper variant of the 2023 Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. We find the chipset in the Motorola razr 50 Ultra, the realme GT6 and the Honor 200 Pro.
