Samsung has posted the Galaxy A16 5G on its website. Samsung's latest entry-level device gets a whopping six Android updates which is quite unusual in this price category. Furthermore, the device is finally equipped with a waterproof IP rating but at the expense of another feature.
The Galaxy A16 looks very similar to its predecessor, the A15. Both are 5G phones with a display that includes a notch, also known as a notch. This all looks a bit old-fashioned but the price will reflect that. New is the waterproof IP54 rating that the A16 5G features for the first time.
Samsung is giving the Galaxy A16 5G no less than six years of Android OS updates, including security updates. This is not common in the lower-end segment, which makes the device last a long time on paper. Then the 5000 mAh battery should last just as long, and in the meantime you shouldn't break the 6.7-inch screen.
No more headphone port
All this progress comes at the expense of one feature we have traditionally seen on cheaper Galaxy phones; the 3.5 millimeter headphone port. That's gone with the A16 5G. If you want to be able to listen to music wired, you will have to use a USB C adapter.
With this, the era of the 3.5mm audio jack is gradually coming to an end. In the most expensive segment, it has already disappeared almost everywhere, and now it seems that the cheapest segment will also have to succumb to it.
The Samsung Galaxy A16 5G will appear in stores in Blue/Black, Light Green and Light Gray colors. At what price and when exactly is still unclear. At the time of writing, no webshop is yet carrying the device.
