Gurman: Apple Intelligence coming Oct. 28, Europe to follow in 2025

According to Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman, Apple will release iOS 18.1 on Oct. 28. This version will bring long-awaited Apple Intelligence functionality to the iPhone 16 series. Those phones were announced last month around Apple Intelligence, and have themselves been available for a while.

Apple made quite a splash with the unveiling and launch of the Apple iPhone 16. The phones were supposed to be designed entirely around Apple Intelligence with more RAM memory and faster processors. But once released, Apple Intelligence was nowhere to be seen. Users just had to wait until version 18.1 of iOS.

It finally appears to be coming on Oct. 28, according to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman. Users of an iPhone 16, 16 Plus, 16 Pro and 16 Pro Max will finally be able to get AI to work. Users in the EU will have to wait, until at least 2025 before all hurdles with authorities are cleared.

Apple Intelligence features

Apple Intelligence is a set of features built around artificial intelligence including;

  • Writing Tools
  • Clean Up in Photos
  • Create a Memory movie in Photos
  • Natural language search in Photos
  • Notification summaries
  • Reduce Interruptions Focus
  • Intelligent Breakthrough & Silencing in Focus
  • Priority messages in Mail
  • Smart Reply in Mail and Messages
  • Summaries in Mail and Messages
  • Siri enhancements, including product knowledge, more resilient request handling, new look and feel, more natural voice, the ability to type to Siri, and more

Apple Intelligence only works with the English language (US) for now after which English pronunciations of Australia, Canada, New Zealand, South Africa and the UK will follow in December. Not until 2025 will Apple add new languages, including;

  • Chinese
  • English (India)
  • English (Singapore)
  • French
  • German
  • Italian
  • Japanese
  • Korean
  • Portuguese
  • Spanish
  • Vietnamese

Should Apple Intelligence be available, the feature will work on all iPhone 16 models, as well as the iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max. The latter two are also powerful enough to run Apple Intelligence.

No more product updates every year

Apple wants to learn lessons from the Apple Intelligence fiasco. According to Gurman, Apple no longer wants to do a product launch every year at a set time, but only when products are ready. However, this is nothing new for Apple, but it is new for the iPhone. It is still unclear what this means for the iPhone 17.
