OnePlus hasn't released a foldable before, yet it has much experience with it. Sister company Oppo has already released a few. The time is now ripe for a global conquest of the company's foldables, and the Open immediately set the bar high.
The OnePlus Open was previously released in China under the name "Oppo Find N3". Both are the same device. It folds like a book and has a folding 7.82-inch inner screen with a 2K resolution inside and a usable 6.31-inch outer screen. Both panels excel in their maximum peak brightness of 2,800 nits.
Folded up, the OnePlus Open is 11.7 millimeters thick; unfolded, 5.8 millimeters of that remains. According to the company, this is thin enough to be compact for easy carrying. The weight remains on the hefty side at 239 grams, although it is lighter than the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Pixel Fold.
Solid hinge
A foldable succeeds by the quality of its hinge. OnePlus chose a titanium and cobalt molybdenum alloy that's 4x stronger than surgical (316L) stainless steel. The screen is held in place with carbon fiber, making a crease hardly noticeable.
A layer of Ultra Thin Glass ensures the panel remains beautiful and scratch-free for a long time. The mechanism has been approved by TÜV Rheinland to be folded a million times. Enough for 100x folds a day for the next ten years.
ProXDR displays
The biggest eye-catcher of this OnePlus is, of course, the inner screen. This one gets several names from OnePlus, from ProXDR to Flexi-fluid AMOLED. It is an LTPO 3.0 panel with a peak brightness of 2,800 nits. Never before was a mobile phone display so bright. The 2K resolution of 2440 by 2268 pixels comes out higher than competitors.
OxygenOS 13.2
The screen is certified for Dolby Vision, which means it can play HDR10+ content. To make maximum use of the generous screen real estate, numerous tweaks have been made to OxygenOS. Version 13.2 features Open Canvas to push or drag apps for better multitasking.
Hasselblad
For the cameras, OnePlus collaborated with Hasselblad. This results in a trio of rear cameras. A primary camera with a 48MP large Sony sensor, a 48MP ultra-wide-angle camera, and a 64MP telephoto camera with OIS and 3x optical zoom. What's unique about the primary camera is that it has a stacked sensor capturing up to 2x more light, according to the manufacturer.
On the front, we find a 20MP selfie camera, and inside sits a 32MP camera, both equipped with electronic image stabilization and housed in a hole in the screen.
Snapdragon 8 Gen 2
Inside the Open, OnePlus uses a second-generation Snapdragon 8 with 16GB of LPDDR5X-type RAM. Storage memory is only available in 512GB. The non-removable battery has a capacity of 4805 mAh and can be charged quickly up to 67W. OnePlus claims the battery goes from 0 to 100% in 42 minutes. The device is WiFi-7 ready and has room for two nano SIM cards.
