Samsung is just not managing to manufacture enough Exynos 2500 chips. The manufacturer would have liked to put the 3nm-baked chip in the Galaxy S25 but the so-called yield appears to be behind. It seems increasingly unlikely that the Samsung Galaxy S25 series will be launched with the Exynos 2500.
By the way, the Exynos 2500 is not the first Samsung chip based on 3nm. The Exynos W1000 in the Watch 7 is the first. That one performed as expected, so expectations of the Exynos 2500 were high.
Where exactly the yield ends up is unknown but the results are said to be so low that Samsung is looking at alternatives. The most obvious is Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Gen 4. However, this has increased significantly in price which would only increase costs for Samsung.
Concurrent from unexpected quarters
Another option is the MediaTek Dimensity 9400. Although this manufacturer is not often associated with high-end smartphones, its performance has improved tremendously in recent years. The lower price may also play a factor in deciding which chipset Samsung ultimately goes for.
Regardless of this discussion, the S25 Ultra will get the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 anyway. Samsung has always been equipping the S Ultra with a Qualcomm chip. Whether the S25 and the S25+ will also get a Qualcomm chip or a different one after all remains to be seen. The launch of the S25 series is scheduled for the first quarter of 2025.
