HMD Fusion official; expandable thanks to Smart Outfits

HMD announced the Fusion prior to the IFA trade show in Berlin. This phone can be dressed up with separately available or self-made accessories. These Smart Outfits can add features to the device such as wireless charging and a selfie flash.

Truly modular we wouldn't call the HMD Fusion but you can expand features with what HMD calls "Smart Outfits. Thanks to the POGO pins on the back, you attach accessories including rugged cases, a case with a selfie flash or a gaming controller.

The newly introduced HMD Fusion

The HMD Fusion is largely self-screwing and therefore self-repairable. HMD calls this Gen2 repairability, and we saw it before with the Skyline. In addition to parts, there are also manuals available to fix the most common problems yourself.

Snapdragon 4 Gen 2

The Fusion is a fairly basic phone with Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 processor. Qualcomm houses it at the lower end of its product portfolio. The camera on the back of the Fusion counts a remarkably high resolution of 108MP with a 2MP depth camera. Up front is a 50MP selfie camera with fixed focus.

HMD launches the Fusion with Android 14 and promises two Android upgrades and three years of security updates. By Android standards, that's very meager.

Smart Outfits

HMD invites everyone to create their own Smart Outfits. You can download the toolkit required to do so from HMD's website. Anyone with a 3D printer can then get started right away. The outfits created by HMD will not be available until later this year.

HMD Fusion in store

HMD gives the Fusion a suggested retail price of 269 euros for which you get 128GB of storage and 4GB of RAM. We expect the HMD Fusion in stores soon. When exactly is unknown, at the time of writing we haven't seen an online store that has included the device, not even HMD.
