And once again a rumor reaches us about the Galaxy S25 series power brick. Will it be a proprietary Exynos or one from Qualcomm after all? A South Korean source now thinks the latter.
The question of whether the future Galaxy S25 and S25 Plus will get an Exynos or Snapdragon chip is especially important for Europe. Elsewhere, Samsung equips Galaxy S models with a Qualcomm Snapdragon chip. The Exynos chip typically loses out to its Snapdragon counterpart in terms of performance and power efficiency.
The Galaxy S23 was the exception to the rule. Before the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, Samsung had no competing Exynos chip so the S23 series was released exclusively with a Qualcomm processor. That appears to be happening again for the S25 series, according to South Korean Hankyung.
Exynos 2500 not on time
While the Exynos 2500 is an excellent alternative to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4, its mass production does not seem to be on time anyway. Perhaps Samsung will apply the Exynos 2500 in the Galaxy Z Flip 7 and Fold 7 expected in the fall of 2025.
The Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 can handle AI even better, making the Galaxy S25 more capable of taking on Apple's iPhone 16, according to Samsung. The Galaxy S25 Ultra was always going to be equipped with a Qualcomm chip.
Price increase Snapdragon 8 Gen 4
Preferring the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 over the Exynos 2500 is a setback for Samsung. Not only for Samsung Device Solutions, the unit responsible for manufacturing the chip, but also because, according to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 will be between 25 and 30% more expensive than its predecessor.
