Surprise: Apple iPhone 16 does have faster wired charging after all

Apple didn't talk about it during the unveiling, but now that people actually have the iPhone 16 in their hands, it turns out that the device does have wired fast charging. At least, faster than the previous 20-watt maximum.

Apple emphasized faster wireless charging via MagSafe during its presentation of the iPhone 16. About wireless charging, Apple did not speak a word. And even to this day, there is no mention of it on Apple's website. Except that you can charge quickly with at least a 20W charger.

In field tests, it appears that the iPhone 16 series can handle as much as 39 watts of power. The iPhone 15 did not go beyond 27 watts. The above photo appeared on ShrimpApplePro's timeline (@vnchocotaco) but has since been removed.

Same charging times

It is unclear why Apple did not emphasize this during the unveiling. One reason may be because the overall charging time is no different from its predecessor. Because Apple is installing larger batteries this year, charging takes almost as long. Apple still claims a 50% full battery in 30 minutes.

Another reason could be that Apple prefers to sell you a more expensive MagSafe charger. After all, to take advantage of the faster MagSafe speed, you need a new charger. And that might pay more than a new corded charger.
