A sustainable phone made up of fair materials costs a bit more. For example, the Fairphone 5 with 256GB currently costs about 650 euros. Fairphone wants to do something about that and is now coming out with a 128GB model. A new color will also be available, making the Fairphone 5 even greener.
With half as much memory, the Fairphone 5 now gets a starting price of €549. Not only is the storage memory smaller, but the RAM memory goes down as well; from 8 GB to 6 GB. All other specifications remain intact, including the easily self-repaired casing.
The Fairphone 5 will also get a new color that fits nicely with the company's goals. The green version should be available sometime in week 37 or 38 and appears to be available only with 6/128GB of storage.
Green version
Current Fairphone 5 users can buy the green back separately for €24.95 in the Fairphone store. There you will also find other parts you can replace yourself such as cameras, screens and thus back covers.
In addition to separately from Fairphone itself, you can also order the Fairphone 5 with a subscription from stores such as Belsimpel.nl. This allows you to spread out the device amount over the term of your contract. That doesn't save money, but you don't have to shell out a hefty amount right away.
