The thinner version of the Galaxy Z Fold6 that Samsung is currently working on is going to be called the Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition, Evan Blass reports. This insider also thinks he knows how thick the device will end up being, which already shows that Samsung is not going to break any records.
When Samsung announced the Galaxy Z Fold6 it was accused of being too thick. In fact, Samsung's foldable measures 12.1 millimeters when folded. By comparison; the Honor Magic V2 comes out handsomely at 9.9 millimeters.
And even though the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition has been put on quite a diet, it will not fall below the magical 10mm mark. According to Evan Blass, the Fold Special Edition remains stuck at 10.6 millimeters which is still a millimeter and a half thinner.
Thinner with bigger screens
Flip open the Fold SE and the thickness shrinks to 4.99 millimeters which is 0.61 millimeters thinner than the Fold6. The inner screen measures a wider 8 inches while the outer screen measures 6.5 inches.
To make the Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition thinner, Samsung left out a few things. Support for the S-Pen, for example. Also, Samsung is presumably applying another Under Panel Camera (UPC) selfie camera inside of 5MP.
For now available only in Asia
So much for the positive news, there is also less pleasant news. Namely, there are strong rumors that Samsung plans to release the Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition only in South Korea and China. Perhaps because it faces strong competition from Huawei and Honor in those regions.
This is not to say that the device will never be released here, although it cannot be ruled out either. For that, we'll wait for the official launch first and see what Samsung has to say about it.
