Xiaomi has something to celebrate. For the first time, the company sold the most smartphones of all manufacturers in the world, according to a research by Counterpoint. Xiaomi hereby replaces Samsung, which held this coveted top position for years. The sales of Xiaomi increased in June with an impressive 26%.
For years, Samsung sold the most smartphones worldwide. Except for a few months when Apple released a new iPhone model. In the meantime, Xiaomi continued to increase its market share. The Chinese brand has sold up to 800 million phones so far. Sales in recent months have increased so fast that it is now the largest smartphone manufacturer in the world.
A great achievement, but not one that would have been possible without disappointing results from Samsung. The South Korean electronics group is struggling with disappointing results, including those of the Galaxy S21. According to South Korean media, half year sales are 20% down compared to the S20 and even 47% compared to the S10. Apple on the other hand is experiencing a great year in sales, but is quite close to the release of a new iPhone, which means that sales are traditionally lower. Plenty of chances for Xiaomi.
Redmi Note success
Xiaomi especially sells a lot of Redmi Note phones. In May 2021, Xiaomi announced that it had already sold 200 million samples of the Redmi Note family. The recently announced Xiaomi Redmi Note 10 sold a whopping 500,000 units in 1 hour in China. Xiaomi's Redmi Note models distinguish themselves with a low price, large screen and some high-end components. The build quality is also quite good.
