Samsung has just unveiled the highly anticipated Galaxy Z Fold 3 5G. This new generation foldable phone has a more durable design with water water resistance and is also the first foldable that support the S Pen. The future is foldable.
The Galaxy Z Fold 3 looks very similar to its predecessor but has numerous improvements. One of them is the water resistant IPX8 housing. The casing is also stronger thanks to a combination of "Armor Aluminum" and "Gorilla Glass Victus". The hinge has also been improved. The Hideaway Hinge features shorter brushes to better keep out dust and dirt.
The screen of the Fold3 is also more resistant to scratches by applying a new type of top layer. This polyethylene terephthalate protective layer is 80% more scratch resistant. This was a requirement for supporting the S Pen. The Fold 3 is the first one that has support for a stylus.
S Pen Fold Edition & S Pen Pro
Samsung is introducing two different versions of the stylus; the 'S Pen Fold Edition' and the 'S Pen Pro'. The latter is equipped with Bluetooth and can also works as a remote control. Both pens have a retractable tip in case too much pressure is applied. The use of other pens is therefore strongly discouraged.
First Galaxy with Under Display Camera
Another innovation that is introduced with the Galaxy Z Fold 3 is a selfie camera underneath the screen. This 'Under Display Camera' is visible even when the 7.6-inch Infinity Flex screen is in use but it is no longer a complete black hole. The screen brightness has been increased by almost 30% and, like the 6.2-inch screen outside, has a high 120Hz refresh rate.
In terms of software, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 is equipped with improvements to Multi-Active Window, App Pair and the Taskbar to enable even better multitasking. This should make the large inner screen even more useful. The Z Fold3 are expected in the colors Phantom Black, Phantom Green and Phantom Silver.

Prices start from € 1,799 and are still high but € 200 lower than the Fold 2. Orders can be placed as of August 11th, the first phones will be shipped on August 20th. Those who place a preorder will receive one year of Samsung Care+ that covers screen and water damage, €200 extra trade-in value and a free cover that includes an S Pen worth €89.
