Progress sometimes comes in leaps and bounds, sometimes in steps. Samsung has taken another such step with the launch of the Flip 6. Just like it did last year. But in the meantime, all those steps add up considerably. We're talking about the battery.
Samsung last week launched the Galaxy Z Flip 6 with a 4000 mAh built-in battery. That's a modest 8% more than in the Flip 5. Going back to the very first Flip from 2020, it's even an impressive 21% more.
The Flip's battery has always been a pain point. That's because the screen has always been a battery's biggest energy guzzler. And the bigger the screen, the faster it goes downhill with battery life. The screen in the Flip has always been 6.7 inches.
Flip through the years
Of course, battery capacity is only one of many factors that determine battery life. Of course, increasing the battery size over the years does help. Where up to and including the Galaxy Z Flip 4 you barely made it through the day, as of the Flip 6 you will be able to do so in most cases.
The above image, where the dimensions are to scale, also illustrates well that not much has changed about the size. The width and length have remained more or less the same, but not the thickness. Samsung shaved off as much as 2.4 millimeters from that over the years.
