Take a look inside the Sony Xperia 1 VI and the new telephoto lens

Scrapping a new mobile is not the first thing that comes to mind, but the guys and gals at WekiHome are clearly different. They bought an Xperia 1 VI and grabbed the screwdriver. You can see the result here.

Despite the fact that the Sony Xperia 1 VI is just out, the model in that dissected in this video is not new but secondhand. However, it was not broken, so it seemed to be able to be used for other purposes. Too bad, but it does make for interesting footage.

For those planning the same with their Xperia 1 VI, the video explains step-by-step how to open the device. After this, it quickly becomes clear that Sony put a lot of thought into developing and building it. The components used seem high quality.

Larger telephoto lens

Our special attention goes to the new telephoto camera with periscope lens. It has a larger range from 85 to 170 millimeters. The Xperia 1 V could zoom up to a maximum of 125 millimeters. As a result, the module is physically a bit larger.

Another thing that stands out during the teardown is how little cooling Sony applied. According to Sony, the Xperia 1 VI is the first Xperia phone with vapor chamber cooling, but it is not as great as on some Samsung phones with elongated copper tubes.

Not surprising, then, that in some benchmarks the device quickly throttled. Although it does seem to be better than previous models. Something to keep in mind if you have your eye on one.
