HMD Skyline is Gen Z phone with 13-year-old design

In 2011, Nokia announced the N9. An angular colorful device with a striking design. We later saw the same design on many Lumia phones, and now 13 years later, HMD is also going with the design. And what turns out? Even with a 13-year-old design, the HMD Skyline still looks stylish.

The HMD Skyline is intended for Gen Z and therefore equipped with an excellent selfie camera. Not only is it extremely sharp thanks to its 50 MP resolution, it also features autofocus for sharp selfies near and far. The Skyline uses Eye-tracking software for this purpose.

On the back are three cameras; a 108 MP main camera with OIS, a 13 MP ultra-wide angle and another 50 MP telephoto for zooming. The screen measures 6.55 inches and runs an FHD+ resolution at an extra smooth 144Hz. Maximum brightness comes out to 1000 nits and the whole thing is protected by Gorilla Glass 3.

N9 design

The design of the Nokia N9 from 2011 still drips through in the HMD Skyline. At the time, that design disguised well thick screen bezels. Something we don't want anymore. As a result, the Skyline will be unnecessarily large. He who wants to be beautiful must suffer pain.

Detox Mode

Besides good cameras, the HMD Skyline comes with a fairly bare Android version with Detox Mode. This mode temporarily turns off notifications from social media until you have calmed down again. The feature is expected later.

Repairing a broken screen or battery is doable by yourself. The back cover is removable after which you can access screws to change the screen. Parts are available from iFixit.

Skyline price and availability
